Welcome to Year 6
Classes
There are two classes in Year 6.
- Hawking Class. This class is named after the scientist Stephen Hawking. The teacher for Hawking class is Miss Brian.
- Obama Class. This class is named after the activist Michelle Obama. The teacher for Obama class is Miss Lindop.
Arriving at school and collecting from school
Children in Year 6 need to come to the KS2 building through the playground and enter the building through the main door. At the end of the day, Year 6 can leave school through the playground or out of the car park gate. Children in Year 6 are allowed to walk home alone once a consent letter has been completed (these will be handed out in September and will need to be filled out even if one has been completed previously). Our gates open at 8:40am in the morning and school finishes at 3:15pm.
Uniform
Our school uniform is:
- Royal blue jumper/cardigan
- Charcoal grey trousers/skirt/pinafore
- Black shoes or trainers with Velcro fastenings (shoes with laces should only be worn where children can tie their own laces)
- White polo shirts
- Blue checked dress/grey shorts optional in warmer weather
- Book Bag
Our PE kit is:
- Black shorts
- White t-shirt
- Plain black tracksuit or black leggings.
School uniform can be bought in many different shops and supermarkets. If you wish to buy embroidered items, then these can be bought online: online Lings School Uniform.
Families who are eligible for Pupil Premium funding can receive support with buying school uniform – please contact the school office for more information.
PE
Children should come to school in their PE kit on PE days. Year 6 classes have PE on Wednesday and Thursday.
What should my child bring?
In Year 6, children need the following things every day:
- water bottle
- waterproof coat
- reading book and reading record
- homework (this will usually be due on a Monday, but class teachers will inform children)
Stay and Read
We love reading at Lings Primary! We have ‘Stay and Read’ sessions for parents every Friday morning from 8:40-8:50am, where parents can come into the classroom with their child to share a book.
Attendance
It is really important that our Year 6 children come to school every day, unless they are unwell. When children have days off school it means they miss learning and they miss spending time with their friends and building connections too. Each school day presents a chance to learn something new, spark curiosity and build skills that will shape your child’s future.
Safeguarding, Inclusion and Family Support
We have a team of staff dedicated to safeguarding, inclusion and family support. The team work together with families and children to overcome barriers and work through problems to make sure that our children feel happy and safe. You will see the team out on the playground before and after school every day.
Thank you for your support in making next year a really positive one. We look forward to working in partnership with you.
